H: Helpful

I tend to be independent and hate to ask for help. Just ask my husband. Being a career firefighter/paramedic/chief, he always tries to help but he learned early on to just wait until I ask. And now I know it’s part of his inbuilt personality so I don’t get fussy when he tries to help. AND I now ask for help more often instead of just struggling to get something done.

But when I’m online and people are searching for the answer to something, I pull out my Google skills and send them what I find. Some thing I’m overly helpful, but I enjoy doing it. In the early days of Google, I got nicknamed the “Google Queen” because I somehow always managed to find what others couldn’t. I still do that from time to time…don’t you just love how internet searching is now Googling? Kind of like in the early days of copiers we said we were going to Xerox something. And how all tissues are now Kleenex, no matter the brand.

I couldn’t find a photo that was appropriate, so here is one of me clowning around when we were working on measuring some materials on the kitchen floor. And yes, I asked him to take the photo. Hope it makes you laugh!

My A-Z this year are random thoughts, ideas, and whatever pops into my mind for the letter of the day. As in previous years, I will keep it short and sweet.

Till next time!

  1. One of the things I liked about my job in the library was being able to help people, including finding answers to questions on a wide variety of things.

  2. Iā€™m following links from comments and found you. I love Googling as well and think I am good at thinking of the right words to look up. I like the way you talk about particular names or brands being used for all items of that description. An example is Esky in NSW Australia for a portable ice box. Also thought of Hoover for a vacuum cleaner.

    1. Ah yes, Hoover is another one from the other side of the pond from me. Esky is good! So glad you stopped by to visit and dropped a comment!

  3. We have that in common, I do not like to ask for help either. We had similar topics today. I love when that happens.

  4. I know what you mean. I don’t often ask for help. I help. And I can’t help helping.
BTW if I were one the floor, I’d be there until someone came to my house to help me up. Fortunately this winter my neighbor had a worker who was just getting out of his truck that I could call for help when I fell. So I guess I have asked for help…staying on the ground in winter isn’t really an option!

    1. That’s one reason we got Apple watches, in cases of falls. This time I was fooling around and told him to take the pic. LOL!

  5. There is an art to “googling” and I’m not good at it, or not patient enough. I often call on my daughter. šŸ™‚ It is so nice to have someone to ask for help. Your fun photo made me smile!

    1. There is an art to it, I think. I’ve just been very good at it and I do have the patience to try a different query or three if needed. Glad you got a smile!

  6. I thought your post was going to include “I’ve fallen down and I can’t get up, but I don’t want help” based on the picture. I love the froggy theme and I’ll be back to catch up on past because this is really cute and what a great idea. Kudos to your creativity!

        1. No shoes for me – mine was a serialized story that is now a free book (so I had to take it off the blog). I wrote totally off-the-cuff, just hoping the story held together at the end.

  7. We sound so alike! It’s SO hard for me to ask for help. And usually, when I do, it’s more like I’m asking someone to teach me how to do something so I never have to ask for help with that again! I’ll just know how to do it myself.

I’m also something of a Google Queen. I pride myself on being able to find articles and information based on the most random phrase or question. A skill that can be used for good… or evil, muhahaha!
