Vanity plates, that is.
My first was for my motorcycle. My late husband had a saying whenever he left somewhere, “Well, I’m/we’re DTFR.” When asked what that meant he’d always respond, “Loosely defined, Down the {cleared his throat} Road”. So his motorcycle tag was DTFR and mine was DTFR2.
My next vanity plate was also on a motorcycle. When we moved from FL to TN, I moved to a new bike in a new state. That meant a new tag and this time, two year later, I decided on FROGGI.
The next items were in 2007 when I sold everything and went full-time RVing. I started out with the motorhome and a small trailer for a small BMW dual-sport bike. After about six months of RVing, I realized I really wanted a car instead of the bike (which I had never really bonded with, guess I’m a Harley girl). I found a car I could tow and with the motorhome having a vanity tag of LILIPAD, the car became the POLIWOG.
When I met my hubby at an RV rally in Wyoming, he was traveling with a mid-size Freightliner (nicknamed Freddie by me), pulling a 42′ K-Z Escalade 5th wheel toy hauler (nicknamed KayZee by me). The 5th wheel had the vanity tag 2ZPCDS (2 zipcodes because of how big it was) and the Freightliner was TKNA5TH (taking a 5th). You can see all four of these tags on the wall in his hobby barn.
That was it for a while. We had talked about a vanity tag for the car but kept dismissing the idea. We finally gave in this year and got it for the Jeep.
He’s still waiting for the vanity tag for his project car, a 1965 red Ford Falcon convertible. The tag will be AA293FD for Anne Arundel Fire Department along with his badge number.
Have you ever bought a vanity plate for one of your vehicles?
My A-Z this year are random thoughts, ideas, and whatever pops into my mind for the letter of the day. As in previous years, I will keep it short and sweet.
Till next time…

No, we never have. We’ve pretty much had you basic pick-up or basic family car. No really bonding going on.
I don’t know why I love these plates, but as I’ve said in the Nicknames post [https://froggi.name/n-nicknames/], I tend to name vehicles. LOL!
Oh, I love this, all of them. But especially Froggi, lilipad, and Poliwog!
I miss them and considered FROGGI on my Jeep Patriot, but decided on MCNICS instead.
Yes, I had ANCHORD for my car, and my husband had RETIRED for his motorcycle. In 2018-19 for A-Z I did Vanity Plates and poems for a theme https://mainelywrite.blogspot.com/2019/04/v-is-for-violin1-atoz-challenge.html ,https://mainelywrite.blogspot.com/2018/04/v-is-for-vlcrptr-and-villanelle.html! They are really fun to look for.
I love this – thanks for sharing!
Lots of creative vanity plates, Donna. No never had one but have thought about getting one once in awhile.
Why not go for it (inowing it’s an extra expense, but we’re not getting any younger…LOL)
You never know, I just might! 🙂
No, never had one – I think the options for vanity plates in the UK are more limited. I have always wanted to drive across America – might have to wair until Trump is no longer there – they probably wouldn’t let me in right now…
And him not being in charge can’t come soon enough – makes me ashamed!
I love this post and you are such a cool looking biker chick…. can’t wait till we get out and start riding again….we are actually buying a second bike today (maybe I’ll learn to drive it for my 60th)… Ha ha. I’ve only had one vanity plate when I lived in Maine. YELODOT. I created a blog Yellow Dot and there is a story to that madness…but that’s another day.
Cheers
I have a friend who was around 60 when she learned (I think) – Donna from mainelywrite.blogspot.com
Off to read look at your Yellow Dot blog…
Not only have we never bought a vanity plate, but we’ve never named any of our cars. Gee, am I that boring? Alana ramblinwitham
Not at all…it’s definitely a personal thing.
Fun names for vanity plates. I don’t drive or even have a car so I’ve never had to pick a name but I suppose it would be something easy to remember.
Have a lovely day.
I had thought about one I saw online – EWW PPL. But I realized it would probably get stolen. LOL!
I love all of your plates and what they mean! I’ve never had a vanity plate – in fact, I’ve only had two license plates! One on my original car (the plate now hangs in my shed) and one of my current car when TN switched to those blue plates and we all had to get new ones. I had my original plate memorized, I had it for so many years! So it might as well have been a vanity plate for how easily I could recite it, haha. I don’t know what I’d put on a plate now… something to think about!

Yup, definitely makes it easier to remember a tag number! It also makes it easier to pick out your car in a parking lot. LOL!
We were going to get one when we moved to another state but didn’t order it. It’s name was going to be W8D2C
I love it!
