Vanity plates, that is.
My first was for my motorcycle. My late husband had a saying whenever he left somewhere, “Well, I’m/we’re DTFR.” When asked what that meant he’d always respond, “Loosely defined, Down the {cleared his throat} Road”. So his motorcycle tag was DTFR and mine was DTFR2.
My next vanity plate was also on a motorcycle. When we moved from FL to TN, I moved to a new bike in a new state. That meant a new tag and this time, two year later, I decided on FROGGI.
The next items were in 2007 when I sold everything and went full-time RVing. I started out with the motorhome and a small trailer for a small BMW dual-sport bike. After about six months of RVing, I realized I really wanted a car instead of the bike (which I had never really bonded with, guess I’m a Harley girl). I found a car I could tow and with the motorhome having a vanity tag of LILIPAD, the car became the POLIWOG.
When I met my hubby at an RV rally in Wyoming, he was traveling with a mid-size Freightliner (nicknamed Freddie by me), pulling a 42′ K-Z Escalade 5th wheel toy hauler (nicknamed KayZee by me). The 5th wheel had the vanity tag 2ZPCDS (2 zipcodes because of how big it was) and the Freightliner was TKNA5TH (taking a 5th). You can see all four of these tags on the wall in his hobby barn.
That was it for a while. We had talked about a vanity tag for the car but kept dismissing the idea. We finally gave in this year and got it for the Jeep.
He’s still waiting for the vanity tag for his project car, a 1965 red Ford Falcon convertible. The tag will be AA293FD for Anne Arundel Fire Department along with his badge number.
Have you ever bought a vanity plate for one of your vehicles?
My A-Z this year are random thoughts, ideas, and whatever pops into my mind for the letter of the day. As in previous years, I will keep it short and sweet.
